My first image the "7 salmon" had to do with my concern with the health of our natural salmon runs. For 11 seasons I worked as a deckhand on salmon fishing boats. The salmon that I did catch were so beautiful. Most of the time I felt guilty catching them to make a living at their expense. Today my passions include the sea and its inhabitants.
The second image was created because we are losing all the beautiful neon signs from the Main and Hastings Street area. It is a collage of images found on the streets in and around this area. In 1980, I lived nearby at Main and Broadway. I loved living in this part of town and I still do. There have been many changes and losing the neons signs is one of them.
In both the pieces I guess I am trying to express the beauty found in both. I was born and raised in Vancouver and both subjects are very important to me.
