It was Chinese New Year. The red lanterns across the street symbolizes the Chinese culture. The color red is for luck. The old buildings in the background are colorful and are part of the beauty and heritage of Victoria. I was inspired by the colors, buildings and richness of the history and culture of China Town.
The Chinese culture is part of our life and history here in BC. The Chinese immigrants helped build BC with their work on the railways, goldmines, sawmills and canneries in BC. Their culture here persevered against adversity and China Town is now a rich and vibrant part of Vancouver and Victoria.
